My 13 year old daughter has anorexia. She is currently in hospital being fed by a nasal tube. She is also needing to eat food from a daily menu plan. Her weight dropped to 35 kg, she is 164 cm. As her mother, I am devastated she has anorexia and can’t help but blame myself. I need to give up work to help her with her recovery. There just seems no light at the end of the tunnel.

First, let me say that I do not have an eating disorder, and I’m not claiming that I do. I used to have a habit of not eating on purpose, but I never thought of it as an E.D. I have a friend that thinks I was on the verge of an E.D…so I want your opinions. Here’s the story.

I got braces, and couldnt eat anything besides like potatos at first because my mouth hurt so bad. I dropped a good… 20 – 25 lbs. Then I started spacing out my “meals” and eating less. At that point, I was just used to eating a little bit because of my mouth, so it was nothing big and my parents knew that. Then I got to where I wouldn’t eat at all. By this time my mouth wasn’t hurting me anymore, I just didn’t want to eat. I liked feeling hungry…I don’t know why..but I liked seeing how long I could go without eating. My parents started noticing when they would go out to eat and I would eat a salad and say I was full. Note that I never went more than 24 hours without eating. My parents finally told me that they were worried about my weight, but I kept doing it. At that point, I think it was for the attention. My sister has 3 kids all under the age of 5…and I was extremely jealous then because I was the baby before them…Then one night I decided to go vegetarian. I went in December of last year, and started eating meat again during the summer because where I live, we dont have much vegetarian stuff and I was beging nagged to eat because I was so thin. I got the nickname “Bonerack” during this time. I was at my smallest then, but I felt so good. I felt healthy even though I looked sick. When I started eating meat again…It was like I couldnt stop eating. I ate a ton a day! I gained back a few pounds..and then everything got pretty normal.

I’m 5′ 8″, 16 years old.
the most I have ever weighed in my life was 145
the lowest Ive weighed was 110.
I now weigh around 125, and I love it. I look at myself in the mirror and even though I have a little pooch at my lower stomach, I love it.
I do miss being vegetarian though…I felt disciplined. Self disciplined. I was a vegetarian and I was sXe (which means I dont drink/do drugs/smoke/have ***. I still dont do any of those, but I did drink once, and I feel guilty calling myself sXe now so I dont) And I loved that the most. It felt like I was standing for something. I’m thinking of going back (back veggie and sXe) , our grocery store moved, and now it has a ton of veggie stuff. I miss that discipline and feeling of importance.

So, what do you think? Was it just a habit or was it a mild eating disorder?

At that point, anything worked. I didn’t care.

Now i’m different though =)

Things i’d like to know:
side effects (negative AND positive; including time frames if possible)
why it’s “better” than iduced vomitting
why it’s “worse” than iduced vomitting
how nutrition is obtained (ie the “marker” in vomitting)
how often one is compelled to purge
how often or how long one is compelled to binge
how long is the inteval in between “feeding periods”

I am open to facts from anyone qualified to diagnose eating disorders, to a person who has a friend who is/was, to someone who is currently/has suffered bulimia.

Has anyone whos had this problem before found a way to just start eating normally again? Cause all this is doing is killing my confidence and turning me into a slob. Is there any free online programs or anything like that to help? because all the ones I find cost money.
