I am 42 and have been bulimic since I was 19. My health hasn’t suffered at all and I’m of normal weight, but I **** myself for wasting so much food and I desperately want to stop. I don’t have money for therapists and I can’t wait months on an NHS list. Does anyone know any good self help books I could get on amazon, or any good web resources? Thanks!

try stuffing yourself 24/7. okay that’s kinda overboard, but really you have to have willpower cos that’s the only way to change it. so instead of using external forces why don’t you push yourself internally, it works better and you feel better in the end! trust me! go for it!
sweetie, I’m sorry to say this but if you’ve been suffering from this condition for 23 years there is no book that is going to help. I can read a dozen books on karate but it won’t make me Bruce Lee. You need a support structure, you need guidance, and you need prayer. There are many mental health facilities that provide help for your condition for little or no money. You have to have a strong desire to quit and not be afraid of telling others of your condition. You would be surprised how many people would be supportive of you. I commend you for asking for help on this website. That’s a strong start. God bless.
If you are bulimic then your health has suffered. You can’t have bulimia and not have done some damage to your stomach, esophagus, and other organs of your GI tract.. You may not notice it, but trust me its there. I commend you for asking for help, thats the first step, the second is getting help before you do even further damage. I wish you luck, and you are in my prayers.
try somethingfishy.com I find them a helpful web resource
Bulimia can not be cured over night. It is something that you will have to Battle with for the rest of your life. Have you ever heard the saying, once a alcoholic always a alcoholic? This disorder is the same. It will be a battle. You have to have positive outlook on life. Start a journal. Find out what situations that happen in your life trigger you to want to binge and then throw up. Is it stress? Loss of self-worth? Need attention? Are you doing it because it is something you can control? Are you depressed?
You say that your health has not suffered!!!!! Well, every time you throw-up, all that acid form your stomach is coming up and burning your esophagus. It is causing tissue damage to your internal organs. It is throwing your electrolytes out of whack. The list goes on. but remember this, eat small meals. If you binge, your vit& mineral are bepleated from your body. Your body will be starved for them. Everthing you do eat and not throw up, your body will store as fat because it does not know when its next meal is comming.
A book may help you, but you have to be ready to change your life. You can read all you want too. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink!!!!!!!!!!
