justme?! asked:
I’ve been suffering from bulimia for almost a year now. I think I’m capable to quit doing it because I’ve been having horrible heartburns almost every time I eat. I’m really concern now and I want to be cured from this illness. I’m wondering if is it possible to quit if for myself without having to tell anybody about it?

You should really go to the doctor and get checked out and treated in case there is something more and more serious wrong with you.
As you may already know, weight loss is often not the effect of bulimia, rather weight is just maintained. Either way, your question was about recovering. Yes and No. Bulimia is a life long disease and you will struggle with it the rest of your life. Now that you have a reflux problem it is very important that you stop because along with other health effects this can lead to cancer, and a stiffening of the lungs. Try planning what you eat for the day and only eat small amounts at a time. Stay away from greasy foods and those high in acid (tomatoes, various fruits) if possible. If you stick to it for a few weeks you will lose the urge to purge (I didn’t mean for that to rhyme). You may still need to pick up some prilosec at the store to stop the reflux. If you are unable to quit on your own, then consult your doctor. They can prescribe something like Prozac for a little while which is in many cases effective in helping kick the routine. Best of luck!
