Fa??.?. asked:
I have an eating disorder (early anorexia with bulimic tendencies)
I go weeks eating 700 or less per day, and then a few days, sometimes weeks of lost control where i just eat, all the time.
Now that I’ve decided to get better and eat properly (on my own, no doctors or whatever)
and I just need to know how to stop binge eating (no purging) but just out of control eating…

try therapy and exercise. worked wonders for me.
dont give yourself access to the food when youre feeling like binging.
or only give yourself access to one food. like fat-free popcorn, and let yourself eat as much as you want. since its good for you and mostly air, you can eat like 2 bags of it!
everyone binges now and then, try sitting down and drinking a glass of juice, this should get your blood sugar under control
No worries about any disorder… the more you think about more will you get prone to it.
Start small. Have some healthy food easily accessible and the unhealthy food may be stashed away.
Ensure that you drink enough water or take liquid ( juices etc.)..esp at the time when you get a desire to binge.
I agree that out of control eating can be dangerous and if your BMI is in high ranges ..you should act fast. Some people have a great metabolism and they can carry on eating a lot.
Just check out your BMI and act fast with small steps in the begining and stop thinking about any disorders.
Eat small servings of fruits, vegetables, and nuts throughout the day. This should help stabilize your consumption levels during your low-calorie days and prevent your body from telling you to binge and counter-act your low-calorie days with a starvation response. Your low-calorie days are causing your body to panic with a binge response. If you are not exercising, get in at least an hour a day of walking or any other motion to relieve stress and calm your body responses.
Hi Butterf,
Good to hear that YOU have decided to get better, and good luck with your recovery!
You are still rebounding from your days of restriction, which lead to the reaction of binging. And then, maybe you go back to restricting in an effort to ‘make up’ for the days of binging?
So you wont really be able to stop the “out of control” eating, until you stop restricting.
Make sure that you stick to regular meals everyday as often as you can. Have a healthy snack in between those meals will help as well. Try and get some protein with every meal as far as you can (so those meals are ‘balanced’ meals nutritionally), and plenty of fluids (non-sugary).
The point is to do this even if you have had a binge that same day. Do not to go back to restricting your intake to make up for binging. Otherwise the see-saw nature of binge –diet – binge – diet just continues.
As you regain some balance in your nutrition, this will help balance blood sugar and other neurochemical levels. (See) When your body is going through the type of rollercoater that binge eating creates, it can be very difficult to think clearly or feel emotionally stable.
Once some balance has been regained (and maintained!), you will then be able to look at any more emotional issues that need addressing, from a position of stability and strength.
And please ask for some professional help if needed. 700 calories a day, weeks on end is extremely low, and I’m sure you are well aware of the dangers to your health if that should continue.
Hope that helps, and best wishes for your future
