How do you know if you are suffering from Bulimia?

taylor asked:
My friend claims she only makes herself throw up once a month, but when she does, she continuously does it for about a week. That’s followed by terrible depression. It seems she likes to hide her depression though so I never really know when she’s faking happiness. I’m happy she’s confided in me, but I don’t know if this is very serious or not. Should I take this lightly or try to get her help?

Thank you, not really the best way to resolve this but your answers are better than nothing.

Encourage her to seek help…a lot of people who suffer from Bulimia do not start out purging several times a day…it starts off occasionally, and if not treated, continues to grow in frequency. You need to get her some help…it is great that she has confided in you, and most certainly, it is a cry for help.
PLEASE do get her help!
I’m a recovering anorexic with bulimic tendencies and that’s how it started. Plus what she claims, is probably a lie. I lied to my family and friends about everything while I was just beginning it.
Depending on your age, if you’re in high school or middle school, go to your counselor and tell her everything.
If you want to be a good friend, even tell her parents what’s going on.
I wish your friend the very best!
She is definitely suffering from bulimia and to make things worse is she’s in denial. It’s really good that she confided in you and you may feel like you’re betraying her, but she really needs help before it gets worse. Somebody forcing themselves to puke and hiding their depression is never good, so Good Luck!
