health nut asked:
I have been binge eating A LOT lately. All of this is due to guy problems, friend problems, and my school grades. I feel like the only thing that helps me to cope is food and it’s really sad. Before everything went down hill i was on a diet and lost 8lbs and now half of it came back. I know that binge eating will not solve my problems by any means, so what can I do to make this stop? Thank you in advance for all of your advice! :]

I hear you on binge eating…it’s so awful. I stopped binged eating…it takes a lot of will power and self control, and it ***** but that’s really the main thing that you gotta do.
Get a small notebook. Whenever you feel like binging write down twenty reasons why you shouldn’t eat what you’re going to eat. That usually did the trick for me.
Sometimes when I want to binge eat, I just work out. I just keep working out until the thoguht of food is completely out of my mind. If you don’t have a work out video, or anything to work out with just turn on some music and just dance around your room for a while.
If you can get rid of the binge food…just throw it away. Unless you live with your parents and they eat that…then they’ll probably get mad if they eat that stuff too.
Is there someone to talk to when you feel like using food for comfort? Is there a distraction you can use, like the computer or going for a walk? Anything you can do to distract yourself for awhile usually makes the urge more manageable.
Oh man, do I ever know how you feel.
We have a body image class in school and we run a mile everyday. So whenever I feel like binge eating, I go upstairs to our workout room and run.
It makes me feel so much better about myself and I don’t take in all those extra calories.
(If no access to treadmill, go outside and run, just walk around your neighborhood, or simply just clean. Anything that requires you to move)
So familiar – turning to food for comfort. We’ve all done it, pet …
Here is a thought: replace the one physical activity with another. It doesn’t have to be heavy duty, for example, when you feel like to want to eat something, get a CD and put on a favourite dance track, and just dance to it in your own house. When you’ve danced to one track, find another, then another. If by this time your craving is still there, get a glass of water and put on another track to dance to. Chances are this will reduce your need to eat, plus you’ll have the added benefit of some exercise and the chance to let off some steam. If you still want to eat after dancing to six tracks, that’s okay, you can have something healthy – six tracks are usually 40 minutes, and that’s an aerobics workout right there, pet. Plus it’s fun.
