Its all about BMI body mass index.
* Underweight =
It depends entirely on the person’s build. Doctors usually use BMI [body mass index] to classify is a person is Anorexic or not – usually their BMI has to be below 18 or 17. [To find out a BMI for a certain height, look up BMI on google or yahoo and you'll find tons of calculators.]
The official diagnosis for anorexia includes: “The refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height. Body weight less than 85% of the expected weight is considered minimal”.
Women get anorexia more than men do. People who have it are generally between 12-25, but it can happen to anyone of any age or gender. A person with anorexia can be any weight or height too. What matters is the decrease in weight. A person could weigh 400 lbs. but if they stopped eating and started losing weight, they would become anorexic.
