What is the diffrence between bulimia and binge and purge anorexia?
Hi,
I am doing a research paper on eating disorders, and in my research, I have found that there are two sub types of anorexia- restricting and the binging and purging type. To me, the binging purging anorexia sounds very much like bulimia. If you could tell me the distinguishing characteristics between the binging purging type of anorexia and bulimia, that would really help with the report. THANKS!!!!

there’s definitely some overlap between the too, but i think the main difference is bulimics binge and purge constantly, while anorexia binge-purge type is restricting but when they binge (it’s bound to happen) they purge
Yes, both bulimia and binge-purge anorexia are very much alike, but there is a small difference. Binge-purge anorexics restrict their caloric intake to near nothing most of the time, but by the time they do binge, they purge it right back up. With bulimia, it’s a constant battle. Everyday you’re binging and purging, and you go through a cycle like that until you get help.
yeah, like the others said, anorexia is where you eat the littlest (haha) amount of food you can. Bulimia- You eat a lot, and then you feel bad, so later u throw it all up. Anorexia- Some people do binge and purge, (eat a lot, then thro it back up) but its not like a cycle, like bulimia. Bulimics can go everyday
I am anorexic/ bulimic the first thing is that as an anorexic i restrict to near nothing calories ( 1 salad every 24 hrs) and if i am lucky and i do eat and not purge i will compensate with restricting the next day to lose the calories that i have intake. As my bulimic side i can go on binges of food i will eat a crazy amount of food until i feel sick within an hr and than induce vomiting to get ride of the food and calories and this way my brain feels like i did not ingest anything you can actually see the difference in the stomach be4 and after a binge and purge. I am not promoting this in any way just answering the question honestly it is the worst thing in the world to go through and does so much damage i am currently seeking help for the 2nd time as i relapsed and for anyone who is considering this it is emotionally mentally and physical exhausting. if you need any info for your paper feel free to contact me as i have plenty of info living through it.
the only difference seems to be the ‘uncontrollable urge’ to binge associated with bulimia and the severe restriction of food in anorexia
Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent binge eating, followed by compensatory behaviors. The most common form—practiced by more than 75% of people with bulimia nervosa—is self-induced vomiting, sometimes called purging; fasting, the use of laxatives, enemas, diuretics, and over exercising are also common.
Anorexia nervosa
Body weight is maintained at least 15 per cent below that expected for a person’s height.
It is self-induced weight loss caused by avoiding fattening foods and may involve taking excessive exercise, using laxatives or diuretics or self-induced vomiting.
There is a strong, almost overwhelming fear of putting on weight, with sufferers preoccupied with the shape or size of their bodies.
Rules are invented regarding how much food is allowed and how much exercise is needed after eating certain amounts of food.
